Jan. 30, 2010 – The Bulldog Track & Field team has nine upperclassmen set new career-best marks at the Jack Jensen-University of Northern Iowa Open on Saturday in Cedar Falls.  Senior Fiona Williams broke the school's 1000 m Run mark that was nearly 18 years old.

 

Fiona Williams had the best individual finish for Truman with a close second in the 1000 meter run.  Williams’s time of 2:59.92 was just three-tenths behind the first place runner from Division I, Saint Louis University.  Her time broke the prevous Truman Indoor mark of 3:00.84 held by Rhonda Ruden since February 1992.

 

The men had six runners improve on their career bests with four coming in the mile run.

 

Zach Chapman led the pack of ‘Dogs across the line in fifth place in a time of 4:26.00.  John Venner (9th - 4:28.40), Brandon Gutteridge (12th – 4:31.14), and Mike Dial (19th – 4:39.11) all improved on their mile times in the race.

 

Jacob Schrum ran 1:24.29 to finish 11th in the 600 meter run while Ian Murillo ran 54.20 in the 400 meter dash.

 

Katrina Biermann, taking a week break from the Pole Vault, advanced to the finals of the 60 meter dash with a prelim time of 8.07.  That time is a career best for the senior and put her in the finals of the event.  Biermann placed fourth with a time of 8.11.

 

Biermann took third in the Triple Jump with a mark of 38-09.50.

 

Dani Dell’Orco ran 5:11.72 to take fifth in the Mile run while Lisa Kucharski placed eighth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:01.30.

 

Derek Atwood had the best finish among Bulldog throwers.  Atwood was fourth in the Men’s Shot Put with a mark of 51-06.50 while Tessa Letuli took fifth in the Women’s Shot with a distance of 42-00.50.

 

The team’s return to the State of Iowa for the fifth time this season to compete in the Cyclone Open at Iowa State University next Saturday.
