March 26, 2010 – The Bulldog Track & Field teams returned to action on Friday at the Washington University Mini-Meet held in St. Louis.  The women finished second as a team and the men placed fourth in the season opening meet.

 

The Bulldogs collected seven individual first place finishes and the women swept both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay events.

 

Katrina Biermann won her only individual event on Friday with a leap of 38-07.50 in the Triple Jump.  Biermann also ran the opening leg in the 4x100 relay that captured first place along with Jennifer Zweifel, Lisa Kucharski and Kaci Sargent.

 

Kucharski and Sargent were also members of the 4x400 squad that included Anne Ratermann and Debbie Boedeker.  The foursome crossed the line in a winning time of 4:05.59.

 

Kucharski also picked up her third win on the day as she took the title in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:06.30.

 

Dani Dell’Orco captured the women’s 5000 while John Venner claimed first in the men’s 3000 meter race.  Karen Gaurel and Bob Gorman each finished second to their teammates.

 

The Bulldog throwers also produced three winners.  Rachel McCarroll won the discus while Dimonique McGruder took the top prize in the shot put.

 

Alex Van Delft led Derek Atwood and Matthew Smith to the top three places in the men’s shot put.

 

The women finished with 180 points, just five points behind winner and host Washington University while the men placed fourth with 103 points.

 

The teams will take part in the Northwest Missouri Invite next Saturday in Maryville, Mo.
