April 10, 2010 – The Truman Softball team split their fourth consecutive MIAA doubleheader on Saturday as they defeated Southwest Baptist in the first game 6-0 but lost the nightcap 8-0.

Richelle vanGennip (9-8) posted her second straight dozen strikeout game as she pitched a complete game shutout in the opener.

Christine Ulses had two of the seven Bulldog hits as she scored twice on the day, including the first Bulldog run on an RBI single by vanGennip in the fourth.

The Bulldogs broke the game open in the fifth as three straight infield singles to start the frame lead to five runs.

The Bearcats turned the tables on the Bulldogs and on pitcher Ashley Rotkvich in the second game.

After a leadoff strikeout, SBU got five hits, five runs and were aided by one Bulldog error to chase Rotkvich after only two-thirds of an inning.

Nina Amaro-Garcia went 3-for-3 at the plate for SBU including a two-run home run in the fourth to put the Bearcats up 8-0.

Josie Rose allowed three hits and no runs in the five-inning victory for the Bearcats.

Truman is now 13-19 overall and 6-6 in the MIAA.  The Bulldogs will play a pair of non-conference home doubleheaders next week.  They will host Illinois-Springfield on Tuesday followed by Drury (Mo.) on Wednesday with both games starting at 2:00 p.m.

Note: In Friday’s first game with Central Missouri, Richelle vanGennip was actually subbed in as the flex player for Meredith Kusky and was responsible for hitting the grand slam.  Statistics for that game have not been changed as of yet as it is the host school’s responsibility for the official statistics.
