Box Score

(ST. JOSEPH, MO.) – A two-error bottom of the eighth inning by the Truman baseball defense allowed Missouri Western to break a 1-1 tie open with a five-run inning and wrap up the weekend with a sweep, as the Bulldogs fell 6-4 in Sunday’s nine-inning finale.

Senior Keaton Jones and junior Kenny Swanson had two hits each and sophomore Devon Myers hit a three-run homerun with one out in the ninth, but two errors doomed Truman (8-27, 5-21 MIAA) and saddled sophomore starter Ryan Trimble with a loss, despite giving up only one earned run in 7.2 innings of work.

The Bulldogs led 1-0 in the second when Jones scored on a Griffon (17-17, 11-17 MIAA) error, but the Griffons tied it up in their half of the third before the five-run eighth inning. Myers made it interesting in the ninth with his blast to right, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the game.

Truman hosts Maryville (Mo.) University in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.
