(JOPLIN, MO.) – The Truman men’s golf team sits 11 shots back of first and just three shots back of fourth in a tightly-packed 13-team field at the Missouri Southern Invitational through the first of two days of competition. Junior Vincent Kurth leads the Bulldogs after shooting a three-over-par 75.
In the first of two MIAA scoring events of the spring semester, the Bulldogs sit 8th overall with a team score of 313. Truman ranks sixth out of the eight MIAA schools in attendance, with Southwest Baptist (305), Missouri Southern (309), Central Missouri (310), Washburn (312), Pittsburg State (318) and Missouri Western (321) all chasing the tournament-leading Fort Hays State Tigers, who posted a 302 on day one.
Kurth’s 75 put him in seventh-place overall as an individual, while junior Chris Kovach shot a 78 and is tied for 25th in the 66-man field. Junior Andy Herington posted a 79, sophomore Nik Bentzinger recorded an 81, and freshman Jake Hanrahan shot an 85.
The Bulldogs will tee off on Tuesday (April 13) morning at 8:00 am for the final 18 holes of competition.
