(BOLIVAR, MO.) – Nine errors in two games cost the Truman baseball team on Friday afternoon, as the Bulldogs lost 4-2 and 8-0 to the Southwest Baptist Bearcats at Dodson Field.
The Bulldogs (10-31, 5-25 MIAA) mustered just two runs and nine hits in 16 total innings against an SBU pitching staff that entered the day with an ERA above 8.00 on the season. Junior Luke Crader and sophomore Pete Jurich logged two hits each – coming in separate games – while sophomore Steven Rose and freshman Brett Budd had the team’s RBIs in the fourth inning of game one.
Freshman Ryan Trimble went the distance in the opener, allowing just two earned runs, but picked up his fourth loss of the season to move to 4-4 overall, while junior Kyle Veazey followed with another six-inning outing in game two, giving up four earned runs (of eight), before freshman Logan Siegler entered late to throw two scoreless frames.
Truman’s pitching limited the Bearcats to just four extra-base hits on the day, including no homeruns and three doubles, but the defense cost the hurlers extra pitches by committing four errors in game one and five in the nightcap.
The Bulldogs and Bearcats (10-32, 8-24 MIAA) will play two more games on Saturday (April 17) afternoon, starting at noon.
