Box Scores: Game 1 (QU 4-0) | Game 2 (QU 9-4)
(QUINCY, ILL.) – Mary Manley had a two-hit day and Kristin Grossman blasted a two-run homerun, her fourth of the season, but the Truman softball team fell 4-0 and 9-4 at Quincy University on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs were stymied offensively in the opener, as Truman managed just one hit – a single in the first inning by Katie Pitts – in the 4-0 shutout. Tori Bunzell moved to 21-4 on the season for the Lady Hawks, while Beth Schnurbusch picked up the complete game loss for Truman.
In game two, the squads were tied at three through the top of the third inning as the ’Dogs got the two-run blast from Grossman in the top of the second before Christine Ulses singled home Alex Weber in the third. But QU notched a five-spot in the bottom of the third against Truman starter Ashley Rotkvich, before Kristen Krause closed the inning, and eventually the game, for the ’Dogs in the circle. A Kristen Siegler double in the sixth plated Manley for Truman’s other run.
An MIAA weekend awaits the Bulldogs, who are now 18-25 overall on the season, as Truman will look to pick up more critical wins in its race for an MIAA tournament berth. The purple and white are 6-6 in MIAA play and will host both Northwest Missouri and Nebraska-Omaha this weekend, starting with the NWMSU Bearcats on Friday at 2 pm.
