May 9, 2010 – Senior Katrina Biermann went out in style as she repeated as the MIAA Women’s Pole Vault champion at the 2010 conference championships held in Pittsburg, Kan.  Biermann has won the last three conference pole vault events (two outdoor and one indoor).

"It feels really good, having back-to-back indoor and outdoor championships is really nice to have my senior year, said Biermann following the event. “I didn't go as high as I wanted to but it was a tough competition. It's just nice to come out with a win."

Biermann broke the meet and stadium record by going 12-05.50 and like the indoor national championship event, won by clearing the previous height first over Missouri Southern’s Ciara Lipsey.

Biermann was also all-conference in the triple jump with a runner-up finish of 39-07.25.  She and champion Brooke Kent of Emporia State saved their best for last as Kent went 40-07.75 in her final jump to win the title.

Sophomore Dani Dell’Orco also had a pair of silver medal finishes as she battled Kimi Shank of Missouri Southern in the long distance events.  Dell’Orco improved her automatic NCAA mark by five seconds as she finished just three behind Shank in the 10K race.  Dell’Orco crossed in 35:18.53 while Shank finished in 35:15.46.

In the 5K, Dell’Orco crossed in 16:51.43 while Shank finished in 16:46.93.  Both times bested the previous conference record set back in 1986.

Three other women finished second in their respective events.  Anne Ratermann in the 800 meter run (2:14.13), Lisa Kucharski in the close finish in the 400 meter hurdles (1:02.66 to Lindsay Lettow’s – UCM 1:02.09) and Rachel McCarroll in the discus throw (145-07).

The Bulldog men had three near all-conference performances over the weekend.

Jacob Schrum finished fourth in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:55.83.

Demetrius Lavant finished fourth in the Long Jump with a season-best mark of 23-04.50.

Joey Walls was seventh in the 1,500 meter run with a season-best time of 3:58.31.
