(KANSAS CITY) – The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) announced its 2009-2010 academic awards on Friday afternoon, with Truman athletes accounting for 328 of the approximately 1,600 total recipients throughout the conference.
Eighteen Bulldogs were granted the MIAA’s Academic Excellence award, which is given to student-athletes who earn or maintain a perfect 4.00 grade-point average. 14 of Truman’s 21 programs were represented with at least one athlete earning a 4.00.
Twenty-three more Truman student-athletes were named MIAA Scholar-Athletes, which is designated for those who have a minimum 3.50 GPA and were named either all-MIAA in their respective sport, were an all-region/district pick for non-MIAA sports, or qualified for a national meet in an individual sport.
Finally, 287 total Bulldogs were named to the conference’s Academic Honor Roll, which recognizes all student-athletes with a 3.00 GPA or higher. The MIAA had 1,408 total student-athletes from across the league on this list, meaning Truman athletes held more than 20 percent of the total spots – the highest percentage of any MIAA program.
As a whole, the Truman athletics department boasted a cumulative GPA of 3.27 through the 2009-2010 academic year with 394 total student-athletes representing 21 sports.
