Apr. 23, 2006 – The Truman women’s tennis team lost both their matches in the MIAA Championship tournament over the weekend in St. Joseph, Mo. The team will await word from the NCAA Selection Committee in regards to postseason tournament action. The announcement will come on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs lost their opening round match to Emporia State 5-0. Truman was swept in the doubles matches and only two singles matches were completed when the Hornets took necessary matches to end the dual.
In the fifth place match against Washburn, the Bulldogs once again fell behind the eight-ball by dropping the three doubles matches. In the singles, Whitney Hamilton was the only Bulldog to get a victory with a 6-1, 7-5 decision over Amber Raindl. Kristine Grajo and Jennifer Salmon were each defeated and the other three singles matches were left unfinished.
The Bulldogs finish the regular season with a 14-7 record. The team was ranked eighth in the latest NCAA regional poll released last week. The NCAA tournament field is set with 64 teams selected with eight coming from each of the eight regions.
